Forward Modeling and Retrieval for MIRO (Microwave Instrument for Rosetta Orbiter) (NASA) |
Seungwon Lee, Paul von Allmen |
MIRO will study the evolution of outgassing water and other molecules and thermal emissions of Comet 67P (Churyumov-Gerasimenko) as a function of heliocentric distance during the near-nuclear operations of Rosetta, starting in August, 2014 and lasting for about 18 months. This project supports the scientific goal of MIRO by developing a forward model to simulate MIRO observations and an inverse method to retrieve cometary properties from MIRO measurements. |

START: Strategic Assessment of Risk and Technology (ECS) |
Kacie Shelton, Virgil Adumitroaie, Bill Lincoln, Hook Hua |
START offers systems for quantifying and comparing the risks, costs and potential returns of technologies that are candidates for funding. The Mission and Technology Portfolio Optimization task calculates the impact technologies would have on the science return of their missions in order to rank the technologies for funding and development. |
